A horse owned by a group of friends from Killarney caused a major sensation on the final day of Listowel’s Harvest Festival when easing home at odds of 250/1.
Kingdom Calling, owned by the Killarney Racing Syndicate and trained by Eoin McCarthy, triumphed in the maiden hurdle when out-running the hotly fancied Willie Mullins trained Korea.
Kingdom Calling, piloted by Richie Deegan, stayed towards the rear until the halfway stage but made his move into fifth entering the straight and took the lead 100 yards out to win by half a length.
The four-year-old had failed to make an impact in his previous three starts, having been beaten comprehensively each time. He finished in ninth place in his debut hurdle outing at Tramore 10 days ago.
The winning prize in today’s John Lynch Memorial Maiden Hurdle was €8,099.
