King Paul reigns in Spain

Paul Nagle: superb victory

WITH a performance that has their name up in lights – again – Killarney’s Paul Nagle and Dungannon’s Kris Meeke powered their way to a sensational victory in round 11 of the World Rally Championship in Spain.

Co-driver Paul Nagle and Meeke celebrated joyously on the bonnet of their Citroen C3WRC after showing great resilience and sheer will-to-win following a number of recent setbacks in different rallies.

But it all came right in on the Spanish gravel tarmac for the Aghadoe navigator and his long-time colleague who remained competitive on the opening day of the rally last Friday, surged into the lead on Saturday and stayed in front until they crossed the finish line.

Nagle and Meeke posted the five fastest stage times and were second in the power stage and their win was celebrated not only in Spain but in Nagle’s hometown where he is a prominent member of the Killarney and District Motor Club.

A club spokesman described the win as “absolutely fantastic”.
