The Old Weir Lodge in Killarney has been named the top hotel in Ireland in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards.
The 30-bed hotel on Muckross Road, owned and run by the O’Donoghue family, was named as the best hotel in the country, ahead of several landmark establishments and some Ireland’s leading five-star facilities.
Guests were lavish in their praise of the Killarney hotel which finished in sixth place in last year’s awards.
One reviewer described the Old Weir as “a real gem”, another said it was “classy place for the money” and another guest remarked: “Marvellous – will definitely come back”.
Three other Killarney hotels featured in the top 10 with Ballygarry Hotel and Spa in Tralee in second place, the Killarney Park in fourth and the Cahernane House Hotel in fifth.
Also making its mark, in no uncertain terms, was Loch Lein Country House in Fossa, which came in at number one in Ireland and 18th in the world rankings in the top small places to stay category.
Guests described the four-star country house property as “an absolute gem” and an “enchanting small hotel in a perfect locale”.
In a new ‘hotels on the water’ category, Pax Guest House in Dingle was in seventh spot.
The annual awards are based on millions of reviews and ratings that cover everything from hotels and restaurants to activities and beaches.
The rankings are drawn from traveller reviews and ratings posted on the site over 2021 and the grading system is backed up with an additional editorial process.
