Killarney’s dreaming of a white Valentine’s Day

TEMPERATURES have plummeted dramatically in Killarney over the past 48 hours and there’s more to come as snow is on the way.

Met Éireann has today issued a weather warning for snowfall for several counties and Kerry is not likely to escape.

Although the majestic MacGillycuddy’s Reeks are already snow-laden, it is expected to reach ground level on Thursday with up to five centimeters forecast in some areas.

Kerry County Council has advised the public to be on the alert, take whatever early precautions are necessary keep in touch with social media platforms for further updates.

Met Éireann has warned that it will be bitterly cold night tonight with a widespread sharp to severe frost setting in.

Temperatures are expected to drop to between zero and minus five with icy stretches forming.

It will be extremely cold again on Wednesday with wintry showers of sleet or snow possible in southern coastal counties.

Thursday will bring sleet and snow across much of Munster, Connacht and Leinster, with snow accumulations leading to hazardous conditions.

Highest temperatures of one to three degrees are anticipated and it will remain icy overnight with sleet and snow continuing to fall leading to further accumulations.
