Killarney has a new twin.
The Killarney Municipal District Council has honoured an outstanding Town Council commitment to twin with the small Italian town of Casperia
Mayor of Killarney, Cllr Niall Kelleher, signed the charter at the weekend that bestows full twin status on the town which is located one hour away from Rome.
He said the twinning arrangement will have many benefits for both locations, not least tourism and cultural links and that a number of education and commercial exchanges will be arranged.
Chairman of the Killarney Twinning Association, Seán Counihan, said he hoped that the many Killarney people that visit Rome might pay a visit to Casperia which is a very beautiful location.

Located on top of rocky hills, Casperia is a small village in the Lazio region of Italy in the province of Rieti. It is 50km from Rome and it has a population of below 2,000.
It is famous for its medieval architecture, ancient walls and striking church buildings with old cobblestoned streets and century-old small houses that dot the narrow laneways.
The economy of the town is based mainly on agriculture and the village is known for its excellent quality olive oil.
Killarney is also twinned with Scottsdale in Arizona, Castiglione di Sicilia in Italy, Pleinfeld in Bavaria, Cooper City, South Myrtle Beach and Concord in the US, the French town of Saint-Avertin, Staffanstorp in Sweden, Springfield in the US and Kendal in the UK Lake District.
