ALTHOUGH award nominations proved elusive this year, Killarney Musical Society members will still play an active part at the 50th anniversary gala of the Association of Irish Musical Awards at the INEC in Killarney this Saturday night.

Despite wowing audiences with a spellbinding premiere of Ghost: The Musical, Killarney’s name wasn’t on the awards shortlist in any category, much to the surprise and disappointment of those involved and the hundreds of supporters who were amazed by the quality of the show.

“The AIMS gods weren’t smiling on KMS. But chin up everyone – we and our audience know what a fantastic job we did to deliver the Irish premiere,” said a spokesperson.

Over 130 musical societies, from several parts of the country, will be in attendance with Tralee Musical Society nominated for a number of top awards for its production of Sister Act.

The nominations are for best overall show, best director (Oliver Hurley), best comedienne (Jackie O’Mahony), best chorus and the Spirit of Aims award (John Hurley).

Aisling O’Carroll of the Light Opera Society of Tralee has been shortlisted as best singer for her role as Cinderella in Into the Woods.

Members of Killarney and Tralee Musical Societies will join forces on the night to perform a special piece choreographed by Oliver Hurley
