Killarney Community College students made their mark in the county final of the annual Kerry County Council Student Enterprise Awards at MTU Tralee.
Cian Walsh, Sophie Ballard and Ella Whiteley were awarded the runners-up prize in the social enterprise category for their business, Moods & Moments.
Outstanding participation levels saw 20 mini-businesses being set up by second level school students involved in the competition which promotes business idea development, structure, sourcing of finance, marketing and sales and the presentation of a formal business plan.
The students progressed through the establishment of a mini company which trades over a period of months. They got to experience the realities of entrepreneurship from developing a business idea to producing a product, researching the market, promoting the business, managing the books and generating profits.
Prizes were awarded at junior, intermediate and senior level and the winners in all categories will go forward to the national finals to be held in Mullingar on May 8.
The winners of the senior category were Pobaol Scoil Corca Dhuibhne students Makayla Ní Bhrosnachain, Anna Ní Chonchúir and Caroline Ní Dhubhda.
The winners of the intermediate Category were Castleisland Community College students Padraig Murphy and Adam Sinnott and the junior winner also represented Castleisland Community College for a project that was the brainchild of Jack O’Sullivan.
