A SPORTS store company with an outlet in Killarney town centre has been the subject of a number of bids since it was placed in examinership, it has emerged.
The deadline for the receipt of offers was Thursday last.
Elvery’s Sports, which has a premises on New Street and another outlet in Tralee, employs a total of 15 people in the county but fears were voiced for staff when it was confirmed that an examiner was appointed last month.
Several groups have expressed an interest in taking on the organisation and the bids include a buy-out proposal from current management backed by investors.
Newcastle United Football Club owner Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct operation and retail giant Heatons are also reported to be interested in acquiring the chain which employs over 700 people in 55 stores nationwide.
Staff, who have been petitioning the Killarney public for support, have been given assurances that if the current management team’s bid is successful all employees will be kept on.
The court appointed examiner could take up to three months to make a decision.
