THE new Connecting Ireland plan will create greater access to attractions for walkers on the Kerry Way and the proposed South Kerry Greenway who don’t have their own transport, a Kerry Green Party representative has said.
The addition of a two-way Ring of Kerry loop is an improvement in service to the South Kerry region with a minimum of five return trips to and from Killarney each day, Diarmuid Griffin pointed out.
“As a tour guide, I am aware of visitors to Killarney, particularly younger adults, that are curtailed from visiting the Iveragh Peninsula due to not having a car,” he said.
“In Killarney, traffic is a daily occurrence at all times of the year. For Killarney to continue as an attractive destination, our transport needs to be diverse,” he said.

“The Connecting Ireland plan, along with the new cycleways earmarked for the town, will ensure a healthier, greener and more pleasant town to visit well into the future,” the local Green Party representative pointed out.
He said Connecting Ireland will increase connectivity, particularly for people living in rural areas.
“This project is timely as we see our roads getting busier and traffic a regular occurrence in Killarney and throughout Kerry.
“The public transport in rural Ireland is not fit for purpose and I am glad to see that the NTA realizes this.
“An alternative to the private motorcar is essential to those that don’t drive, can’t drive or choose not to,” he said.
