Killarney Library held an event this Tuesday to encourage reflection on and celebration of 50 years of membership of the European Union and to foster a greater awareness of reading.
The library has curated a collection of translated fiction from across the European Union member states in the hope that the collection will help readers discover the many wonderful cultures that make up the EU.
It will help to illuminate corners of Europe they may not already be familiar with, provide a look at some of the political and social landscapes in the EU and introduce new voices, viewpoints and stories.
“A good book will transport you through time and place and across cultural barriers, allowing the reader to gain a better understanding of the author’s world,” spokesperson said.
The collection will be available to loan to library members in Killarney, Tralee Listowel, Killorglin, Caherciveen and Dingle.
This Tuesday students from the three Killarney secondary schools attended talks by lecturers from the University of Limerick European Studies course as part of the library Europe Day seminar.
