THIS was the magic moment that Killarney’s Matt Slattery crossed the line to clinch the Munster cyclocross championship title on Sunday afternoon.

He produced a scintillating performance to register a convincing win in the Killarney Cycling Club promoted event held in Fossa.

Matt, who rides for Strata3-VeloRevolution, fought off a stubborn challenge from Mark Shannon (Burren CC) and Brian McCarthy (MBCC) to be crowned provincial champion.

He was clear after the first lap with McCarthy and Killarney’s Richard Maes giving chase but the latter suffered a puncture although he was quickly back on the saddle.

It wasn’t the first time Slattery stole the show in recent months as, in August, he won the Kerry Road Race Championship to receive the Michael Blackwell memorial cup.
