THEY’RE cleaning up in Killarney – and long may it continue.
Game-for-a-laugh locals tuned back the clock this week to mark the 60th anniversary of the Tidy Towns competition which was first held in 1958 to reward the tidiest towns and villages in Ireland.
Killarney has been at the forefront of the annual competition and, memorably, won the prestigious overall award in 2011 in addition to several Gold Medal prizes.
Getting in the mood for another year-long campaign on New Year’s Day were, Kate O’Leary, Johnny Maguire, Emer Corridan, Andrew Joy, Annmarie O’Shea-Kennelly, Julie McGowan, Yvonne Quill, Kathleen Foley, Michael Moynihan, Paul Purcell, Cllr Michael Gleeson and Cllr John Joe Culloty.
