KERRY now know that they will face either Mayo or Galway in Fitzgerald Stadium in the next round of the championship but frustrated businesses are still in the dark as to what date the big game will be played.
All they know at this stage is that the fixture will be played on either Saturday, July 13 or Sunday, July 14 with the result of next weekend’s clash between deadly Connacht rivals Galway and Mayo still to be determined.
Hoteliers in Killarney have been left flummoxed as they are unsure whether or not to expect a significant rise in accommodation demand as would be the case if the game was to be played on Saturday.
“Before today’s draw was made we already received numerous calls from Galway supporters seeking to provisionally book accommodation but we would be left in a right mess if a decision is made to play the game on the Sunday instead as they won’t stay then,” one hotelier told KillarneyToday.com.
“It doesn’t matter to us whether it’s Galway or Mayo but surely it’s not too much to ask the GAA to decide on a day to pay the game – it’s either one or the other so why can’t they decide?” he said.
Gardai are also still in the dark on the time and date of the fixture and decisions cannot be made regarding overtime and the implementation of a traffic management plan until the details are known.
At 12 noon this Monday there was still no mention of the next round of the championship on the Kerry GAA website.
Mayo and Galway will meet next weekend at a neutral venue and the other fixtures in the round four draw pitches Cork against Laois, Meath v Clare and Cavan v Tyrone.
Kerry will play wither Galway or Mayo in Killarney before travelling to Croke Park to take on Donegal the following weekend and their last Super 8’s fixture will be against either Meath or Clare in Navan or Ennis.
