KIERAN Lynch was remembered at his funeral Mass this Thursday as a great fisherman, a skilled boatman and an accomplished musician but, more importantly, as a devoted and loving husband, a wonderful father and a real family man who passed away well before his time due to a long illness.
From Arbutus Grove, Killarney and late of Marian Terrace, the son of the late Mai and Fonso Lynch and the youngest in a family of 10, Kieran was well known and very popular in the home town he loved so much.
He was always very pleasant to meet and greet, he had a friendly word for everyone he encountered and, as was recalled at his funeral Mass, he would do anything for anyone and if he didn’t have the means to do it, he would find them.
Throughout his life, Kieran loved boating and fishing on the lakes and he was a familiar sight on Lough Lein. He was also a very accomplished guitar player which was no surprise as he came from a very musical family and he loved a sing-song with music playing such an important part in his life.
Ill health, in the form of Alzheimer’s disease, brought a dark shadow in the prime of his life and for the past 12 years, Kieran has been through his share of health-related setbacks.

At the Requiem Mass in St Mary’s Cathedral this morning, celebrant Fr Niall Howard praised Kieran’s wife, Mary, daughter Theresa, sons Johnny and Kieran Jnr, and the extended family for the care, protection and love they showed him throughout his illness.
Kieran was also expertly cared for over the past two years by the staff of Killarney Nursing Home before he fought his final battle this week in the Palliative Care Unit of University Hospital Kerry.
Greatly missed by Mary, Theresa, Johnny and Kieran Jnr, he is further survived by his son-in-law Tony O’Sullivan, daughter-in-law Lucianna, grandchildren Paul, Kelly and Toni, his brother John, who lives in Canada, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his brothers Paddy, Micheál, Gene, Jimmy, Derry and Billy and his sisters Nancy and Una.
In accordance with Government and HSE guidelines, and in the interest of public health, a private funeral took place for Kieran this Thursday morning with burial afterwards in Churchtown Cemetery.
