DANNY Healy-Rae has organised additional buses to transport people to and from Kerry Belfast to undergo surgical procedures

Dozens of people in need of intervention, who have spent months or years on waiting lists in Kerry, have already travelled up north to undergo treatment on demand.

Several return medical access coach trips have been organised by the Kerry TD in recent months. They are assessed by a consultant and medical team on arrival in Belfast and the procedures are carried out before they return back to Kerry, following an overnight rest.

Frustrated by long waiting times to have cataracts removed in their own county, many patients are transported to Kingsbridge Hospital to allow the procedures to go ahead.

They have been on long waiting lists for the relatively simple 20-minute cataract procedure to be carried out and one man, recently treated in Belfast, had been waiting seven years to be seen in Kerry.

“Due to the increased demand and the uncertainty of the future for the cross border directive, with Brexit looming, I have additional  buses this weekend and again on February 9 and 18,” Deputy Healy-Rae said.

Those wishing to travel to Belfast to have cataract or tonsil removals, or those seeking to have knee or hip surgery consultations, are asked to Danny on 087-2316055 or 064-6685315.
