Kerry TD impressed at meeting with Katie

Michael Healy-Rae with Katie Ascough in his Dáil office

THE former Students’ Union President at UCD, who was impeached over her decision not to publish information on abortion in a student publication, despite the information being previously available in UCD, will address a public gathering in Kerry this Tuesday night.

Katie Ascough was voted out of office when 4,540 voted in favour of impeachment with 2,032 against. That represented 69 per cent in favour of removing Ms Ascough who is a pro-life supporter.

The medicinal chemistry student, who has ambitions to become a scientific journalist, will speak at the official launch of the Kerry Right To Life campaign in The Rose Hotel, Tralee at 7.30pm tonight.

The organisers have encouraged everyone who wishes to uphold the right to life of the mother and her unborn child to attend.

Guest speaker: Katie Ascough

Kerry TD, Michael Healy-Rae, recently met Ms Ascough in his office in Dáil Éireann and, posting a picture of the meeting on social media, he remarked: “Great to meet such a bright, intelligent young woman who is so passionate about what she believes in”.

Meanwhile, another pro-life campaigner was applauded when she addressed the congregation at Masses in St Mary’s Cathedral in Killarney at the weekend.

Anne Keeling told those attending Mass that the right to life is the first and the most important right and, without it, all other rights are rendered meaningless.

“What happens in the coming months will shape the Ireland of the future,” said Ms Keeling who complained that the media is not giving the full picture on the planned referendum and she urged the congregation to “look beyond the headlines”.
