KILCUMMIN GAA Club and the Kilcummin Parish have sent best wishes to star footballer Seán O’Leary who was injured in a two-car collision outside Abbeyfeale, Co Limerick on Saturday night.
The entire county was shocked and upset to learn of the crash in which two men and a woman, all in their 20s, and a teenager were all injured.
The two-car collision occurred shortly after 11.30pm on N21 at Kilconlea, Abbeyfeale. It is believed Seán was returning home after the Kerry v Tipperary Munster Championship semi-final clash in Thurles earlier that evening.
The main road from Abbeyfeale to Castleisland was closed for a period of time to allow a forensic examination to take place.
In a statement, Kilcummin GAA Club said: “The club would like to send our best wishes to senior player Seán O’Leary following a serious car accident. Our thoughts are with Seán and his family”.
The statement added: “We wish Sean and the other people who were injured in the accident a full recovery”.
Kilcummin Church said: “Wishing Seán and all who were involved a very speedy recovery. Sending you our thoughts and prayers and good wishes”.
Seán (22) is one of the most talented young footballers in the county and he has been a member of Peter Keane’s extended panel for this year’s championship.
He was a star corner back on the David Clifford inspired Kerry team that won the 2017 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship and on the Kilcummin team that won the All-Ireland Intermediate Football Championship in 2019.
Sean, who studies business in UL, also won back-to-back Hogan Cup medals with St Brendan’s College and, on the soccer field, he has lined out with Mastergeena FC.
Gardai have appealed to any witnesses to the crash to come forward and they would particularly like to hear from anyone who might have dash-cam footage.
