Kerry joint seventh on Covid-19 confirmed cases list

THE number of coronavirus cases in Kerry has now risen to 53, it can be confirmed.

That’s an increase of six since yesterday and new Department of Health figures show that, nationwide, 10 more people have died as a result of contracting the virus – eight males and two females – including one in the south of the country.

An additional 200 people have tested positive for Covid-19 bringing the total number of cases to 2,615.

Kerry, with three per cent of all cases, remains a coronavirus blackspot and is joint seventh with Tipperary in terms of having highest number of cases in the country.

The six main affected areas are Dublin (1,233), Cork (208), Galway (68), Westmeath (67), Wicklow (65) and Kildare (61)).

Today’s data relates to figures gathered at midnight on Friday and the statistics reveal:

  • 51% of cases are male and 48% are female, with 103 clusters involving 379 cases.
  • The median age of confirmed cases is 47 years.
  • 564 cases (26%) have been hospitalized and 77 cases have been admitted to ICU.
  • 506 cases are associated with healthcare workers.
