Kerry FC has condemned racist abuse directed at some of its players on social media during last night’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Athlone Town in Mounthawk Park in Tralee.
The club issued a statement this Saturday to express shock, disappointment and anger over the incident and officials said they would work with the League of Ireland to help stamp out racism.
“Kerry FC condemns discrimination in football and will not tolerate any form of hate towards any of our players or staff,” the statement read.
The club said people of welcome at Mounthawk Park regardless of race, ethnicity and other diverse backgrounds.
It’s not going very well for the club on the field of play either as they are still looking for their first win after six League of Ireland Division 1 games.
Kerry FC are propping up the table after five defeats and one draw – against second from bottom Treaty United – having conceded 14 goals and notched just four.
They were hit by a sucker punch at Mounthawk Park last night when Athlone grabbed the winner in the 88th minute.
