Kerry’s already well-established links with Frankfurt in Germany have been further strengthened following a visit to the German city by Cllr Patrick Connor Scarteen, the newly elected chairman of the Kenmare Municipal District, to meet with the Kerry County Council’s partners in Frankfurt-Hoechst.
The original link with Frankfurt was made with Tralee in 2009 and extended countywide in 2014and,of course, there is an established air service between Frankfurt-Hahn and Kerry Airport.
The Vereinsring Hoechst promotes Kerry at its various events, including their month-long Castle Festival or Schlossfest which takes mid-summer and Christmas market in November.

The group also organises the Germany Rose of Tralee selection event and members visit the county regularly.
Cllr Connor Scarteen, who was accompanied on the visit by the council’s tourism officer, John Griffin, met with officers of the Verinesring, with the new Consul General of Ireland, Anne-Marie Flynn, and held a separate meeting with Nadine Lehmann, manager of the German speaking markets of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, who is based in Frankfurt.
Ms Lehmann said that consumer and trade interest in Kerry was already up following the DER TOUR Academy Workshop in Killarney in April where over 200 travel agents experienced Kerry at first-hand.
Cllr Connor Scarteen stressed the importance of supporting the Frankfurt-Hahn to Kerry air link and a number of tourism initiatives were discussed which will be advanced during the coming months.
