Kerry for Choice happy with no cost barrier

Paula Dennan: Kerry for Choice convener

THE Kerry for Choice organisation has said it is encouraged by the announcement by Minister for Health, Simon Harris, that abortion care will be provided for on a universal basis so that cost will not be a barrier to accessing services.

Paula Dennan, Kerry for Choice convener, remarked: “We know that women from rural areas, women of lower socio-economic means and people who do not have access to their own finances face additional barriers to accessing abortion care”.

She said those included women in abusive relationships or living in direct provision.

“Removing cost barriers ensures that abortion services are accessible to everyone, when they need them,” Ms Dennan stated.

On September 29 Kerry for Choice will be taking part in the Abortion Rights Campaign march for Choice, the theme for which is ‘Free, Safe, Legal’.

“This will be a celebration of the referendum win as well as a show of strength for support for access to abortion for anyone who wants or needs one,” Ms Dennan said.

“We will be marching in solidarity with the pregnant people who have been forced to leave Kerry to access abortion care abroad”.
