Kerrie to be remembered in her home parish

The late Kerrie Browne

A MEMORIAL 5K run and walk is to be held this Sunday in memory of a hugely popular Kerry nurse who tragically lost her life in a road collision outside Castleisland in October.

The event is a tribute to Kerrie Browne (26) who is understood to have been driving home after finishing a night shift at University Hospital Kerry when the crash occurred at Meenleitrim, on the N21 Killarney-Limerick route.

Kerrie, from Brosna, had returned from working as a nurse in London where she had lived for a number of years.

Sunday’s event will double as a fundraiser for two causes that were very close to Kerrie’s heart in her nursing career.

All proceeds from the entry fee will go to the Cashel Ward in University Hospital Kerry and the IFOR Ward in Whittington, London where she previously worked.

The run and walk will be held at Brosna GAA grounds, commencing at 11.00am, with registration from 10.00am. The entry fee is €10 for adults, children can participate free of charge and everybody is welcome to join in.

Kerrie was a keen runner and was also very actively involved in her local GAA club.

Following the accident that claimed Kerrie’s life, shocked colleagues in the Support for Nurses, Midwives and Frontline Staff group paid tribute to the popular nurse.

A statement read: “Kerrie cared for so many in her short life. Her work here on this earth is done. God has called her home. Thank you Kerrie from all of us”.
