HOTSHOT Karl McMahon tamed the tricky golf course at Waterville to win an annual golf tournament in memory of a hugely popular Killarney man.
Karl notched 40 points to win the Denis Coffey Memorial which is organised by Dr Crokes Golf Club in honour of the great club stalwart who passed away, suddenly, in 2011.
Karl was in top form and he did enough to fight off a stern challenge from the chasing pack led by Joey Sheehan, Niall O’Callaghan, Gavin O’Donoghue and John Brosnan.
Mike Moloney bossed the front nine and Eoin Brosnan set the pace on the back nine and it was a very special day too for Peter McEnery who had a memorable hole-in-one on the fourth.

The competition was dedicated to the memory of Denis Coffey who was an accountant and a partner in the long-established firm O’Brien Coffey.
Denis was a former captain and president of Killarney Golf and Fishing Club and a footballer of considerable renown with Dr Crokes.
He also played Sigerson Cup football with UCC and served as treasurer on the Fitzgerald Stadium committee for some time.
Denis played a very instrumental role in Killarney securing the Irish Open for the first time in 1991 and he served as tournament director and chairman of the organising committee for the event won by Nick Faldo.
He passed away, at the age of 61, while playing golf with friends.
