A DARING skydive to raise funds for a very worthy Killarney cause is being planned with a team of brave people lining up to play their part by plunging out of a plane.
The event is being organised for the Stephen Lyne Foundation, an organisation set up following the tragic death of the Killarney teenager in 2009 and it is being held on the 10th anniversary of his passing on Saturday, June 15.
The ‘Jump for Stephen’ will take place in Co Offaly and it will generate funds to help Stephen’s mum, Lotte, to continue her mission to foster empathy in children and young people so that they might become incapable of committing a violent act and incapable of hurting another human being.
Her 17-year-old son was attacked and killed on Ross Road, Killarney on his way home from a night out and his devoted parents, Denis and Lotte, set up the Foundation as a tribute to Stephen and to help others.
“Stephen never got a chance to live his life or reach his full potential. The sorrow and grief we as a family live every day will never go away but I am determined not to let it destroy us or break us,” Lotte told KillarneyToday.com.
“I chose to channel my emotions into having a positive impact in our community. I am on a mission to raise empathy in our children and young people so that they become incapable of committing a violent act,” she added.
“I choose to believe in the goodness of humanity and I will dedicate my life to creating a safer world for the next generation. This will be Stephen’s legacy,” Lotte said.
All funds raised through the skydive raised will go towards funding the Roots of Empathy project in local primary schools with St Oliver’s National School, Gaelscoil Faithleann, Holy Cross Mercy and the Monastery all enthusiastically welcoming Lotte’s orgrnisation.
