ALMOST two years to the day of his appointment as District Court Judge, Justice David Waters was today permanently reassigned to District 17 which includes the courts of Killarney, Tralee, Dingle, Kenmare and Listowel, as well as family law matters.
He had been deputising in the Kerry courts since January but now succeeds Judge James O’Connor, from Glencar, who had served in District 17 from 2005 until his recent retirement.
The Department of Justice and Equality revealed to KillarneyToday.com that the cabinet has permanently assigned Judge Waters, who had been serving as an unassigned judge, to District 17 with immediate effect.
He was educated in the National University of Ireland in Galway, University College Cork and the Law Society of Ireland and he was enrolled as a solicitor in 1992. Since 2009, until his appointment to the District Court in 2016, he had been principal solicitor with Sullivan Waters & Co in Mallow, Co Cork.
As a solicitor, Judge Waters built up wide experience in personal injury cases, conveyancing, probate and criminal law and he is a member of the Law Society Criminal Law Committee.
His late father, John, was a solicitor for over four decades in Mallow.
