The Kerry premiere of a feature film made in the county will be screened in Killarney on July 27.

Joyride, starring Academy Award winner Oliva Colman, had its world premiere at Galway Film Fleadh and the first Kerry screening, organised by the Kerry International Film Festival, in association with Screen Kerry, will be held in Cinema Killarney.

Ahead of the general release, the cast and crew have been invited to the Killarney screening with writer Ailbhe Keogan, Emmy Award winning director Emer Reynolds and some main cast in attendance for a questions and answers session. Some public tickets have also gone on sale.

A number of local organisations were instrumental in bringing the production to Kerry including Screen Kerry, the Kerry ETB Film Office, Kerry College Monavalley Campus and theBroadcast Production Skills course, where a production base was set up for 10 weeks. Kerry County Council facilitated filming throughout the county on the road movie.

Joyride tells the story of 12-year-old Mully, fleeing from his father, who steals a taxi and is shocked to find a woman, Joy, in the back seat with a baby.

Joy is on her way to an important meeting and Mully needs to get some distance from his dad and the unlikely pair go on a journey across Ireland, gradually finding the friendship, love and learning, they never knew they needed.

As they tear around the roads of Kerry, blasting through border patrols and more cars, it’s colourful, chaotic and lots of fun.
