
Journalist Édaein O’Connell will have an opportunity to get the inside story at this year’s Rose of Tralee festival having been crowned 2022 Kerry Rose at a gala ceremony on Saturday night.
From Glenderry outside Listowel, she studied civil law in NUIG and later completed a higher degree in business and a master’s in digital marketing at DIT before eventually happening upon a career in journalism.
She now writes on everything from fashion and travel to pop culture and she has written for several publications, including the Sunday Times, Irish Independent and Metro UK.
In her spare time, she is an avid reader and a keen singer, having won two All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil titles.
Édaein, who represented Garvey’s SuperValu, Listowel, in the Kerry final, attended Dromclough National School and the Presentation Convent Secondary School in Listowel.
She was announced as winner of the Kerry Rose selection at Siamsa Tíre in Tralee by host Daithi Ó Sé, with 22 other contenders vying for the title.
Édaein succeeds Sally Ann Leahy who has been Kerry Rose since 2019 and she will represent her native county at the festival will take place from August 19 to 23.
