TO suggest that John Fitzgerald is dedicated to his job is something of an understatement given that he is now celebrating an incredible 50 years at the frontline of Killarney tourism.

Dedicated John is this year marking the 50th anniversary of the day he joined the staff of the Great Southern Hotel and he has risen through the ranks to his current position as supervisor in the Garden Room Restaurant.

John first walked up the steps of the landmark hotel on 1 July 1969 and he went on to play an invaluable role in customer service for five decades, serving under several managers and seeing the hotel changing its name to The Malton before returning to the original Great Southern brand.

“He is adored by staff and guests alike. He has a great sense of humour, a generous spirit and always has a smile on his face,” a spokesperson for the hotel remarked.

“John’s commitment to the Great Southern is exemplary and his hard work is an inspiration to everyone”.
