THE funeral took place in Killorglin on Monday of John Dwyer who was a very influential officer and political strategist with the Fine Gael organisation in South Kerry for many years.

A very astute and experienced observer of the political mood of the country at any given time, he was constituency chairman during a number of local and general elections in his home constituency and he was very highly regarded not only by the party faithful but by those of other political persuasions.

John will also be remembered as a very wise director of the elections who spearheaded a number of successful campaigns at the polls, maximising the party vote and very often when the odds were stacked against him doing so.

A pig farmer from Muingaphuca in Killorglin, John was held in very high regard as being friendly and a thorough gentleman with a quick wit and a great sense of humour and fun.

He passed away, peacefully, on Thursday and the private Requiem Mass was celebrated in St James’s Church, Killorglin on Monday with burial afterwards in Dromavalla Cemetery.
