The fourth annual GAA Club awards night took place in the Torc Hotel. Once again, the venue was top class and thanks to Brendan and his staff. Michael Gleeson was, as always, an excellent Fear an Tí. The following presentations were made:

The Young Player of the Year (Aidan Cronin Award) was presented by Ann Cronin to Niall McCarthy and the Junior Player of the Year (Pat Corcoran Award), was presented by Tim Corcoran to Hugh O’Donoghue.

The Senior Player of the Yew Award (John Doyle Cup) was presented by John Doyle Snr to Evan Cronin.

Senior Lady Player of the Year: Katie O’Brien.

Social/Cultural Award: Eileen Casey.

Lifetime Achievement Award: Jim Gleeson

There were also medal presentations to the junior team on their East Kerry victory and the senior ladies who were represented well and received their East Kerry Division 3, Junior B County Championship and Division 3 County League medals.

Special recognition was given to the St Brendan’s College team on winning the Hogan Cup Winners 2016 and 2017. Dara Moynihan, Niall McCarthy, David Spillane, David Carroll, Evan Cronin were all in attendance to receive a framed signed Sem jersey which will hang with pride in the clubhouse on the hall of fame.

The Kerry juniors, were acknowledged for their All-Ireland win, with Niall O’Mahony as selector and Evan Cronin on the team.

The Scór na nÓg All-Ireland winning set performed for the packed hall and received a standing ovation. They will once again compete in the All-Ireland on February 17, when they challenge the best of Ireland in the GAA cultural event in Sligo IT. Best of luck to dancers, Erin Holland, Liam Spillane, Orlaith Spillane, Eoghan Mulvaney, Siona Moynihan, Gary O’Sullivan, Meghann Cronin and Cian O’Sullivan and to coaches Triona and Mairead Mangan.

Officers: Michael Cronin has taken over from Gerard Mangan as Spa Club Chairman. Congratulations to Michael as he brings great experience to the role and we are all sure that he’ll steer the club in the right direction.

Gerard Mangan was an exceptional chairman with huge club developments in his five-year tenure. An executive meeting was held on Friday to elect the officers for 2018. They are:

Fixtures: On Friday next, February 11, it’s Spa v Kenmare in the East Kerry Super League Division 2 in Spa at 7.30pm. The Division 1 County League tie against Rathmore will be on Sunday, March 11.
