
The funeral arrangements for Jim O’Brien, who was a very familiar and friendly face behind the counter of his family’s public house, Jimmy O’Brien’s on College Street, for many years, have been announced.
Jim Bob – as he was popularly known – ran the busy hostelry with his father, Jimmy, who passed away in October 2021.
A great GAA supporter and lover of the music, song and traditions of Sliabh Luachra – his father’s native place – Jim Bob passed away, suddenly but peacefully, at his home on Countess Road on Friday.
Reposing at O’Shea’s Funeral Home, Killarney on this Tuesday evening, from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, will be followed by removal to St Mary’s Cathedral. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10.30am on Wednesday followed by burial in Aghadoe Cemetery.

The son of the late Mary and Jimmy, Jim is survived by his sisters Anne and Siobhán, brother-in-law Harry, Siobhán’s partner Paudie, niece and nephews Shane, Cian, Róisín and David and their partners, grand-nephew Teddy, aunt Rita Goodwin, uncle Dan Cronin and many other relatives and friends.
