IT came as a great shock to the many loyal customers he had built up in the hospitality trade and the friends he had made in Killarney down through the years to learn of the unexpected passing of popular businessman Jerry O’Sullivan, the man who founded and spearheaded the Caterassist company since 2001.

A former head chef in a 100-bedroom hotel who went on to manage catering operations for blue chip clients, Jerry has worked in both management and culinary roles throughout his career in hotels in Ireland, the UK, USA and the Caribbean.

During the boom years with the Killarney headquartered Caterassist, he had seven offices around the country and acquired another successful recruitment company but once the recession hit, he realised that a company specialising in permanent recruitment was never going to last and he moved to Noel Recruitment as business manager for Ireland.

Jerry later set up the Astoria Partnership and focused on countries like Germany, Italy and Canada and UK to find the right staff for clients throughout Europe. More recently based in Dublin, with an office in London, he was a specialist in sourcing and recruiting the best talent for the industry and he put his vast experience in the hotel, catering, leisure, cruise and commercial industries to good use.

Jerry is survived by his beloved daughter Lorna, father Jim, brother Thomas, sister-in-law Marian, relatives and many friends.

Reposing in Lynch’s Funeral Home, Ballybunion, on this Tuesday from 5.00pm to 7.00pm removal will follow to St John’s Church, Ballybunion.

Requiem Mass will be on Wednesday at 11.00am with cremation afterwards in Shannon at 3.00pm.
