James was extremely well known in the greater Killarney area and beyond through his involvement in so many community organisations, including the Beaufort Parish Community Council and the South West Regional Fisheries’ Board.

He devoted much of his life to securing better services and greater supports for rural dwellers and in 2011 he received honorary life membership of the IFA for his services to the organisation.

James was very highly regarded in the farming community

A former long-serving and hugely respected chairman of the Kerry IFA, James has also served as national chairperson of the Irish Rural Development Association.

James is survived by his wife, Mary, sons Patrick and James, daughters Catherine, Mary Ellen, Theresa, Madeline and Elisabeth and grandson Noah.

Predeceased by his brother Michael and sister Betty, he is further survived by his brother and sisters, Frank, Anne, Leonora and Eileen, daughter-in-law Emma, son-in-law Danny, nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends.

Reposing this Sunday evening at his residence from 3.00pm to 7.00pm, the funeral is scheduled to arrive to St Mary’s Church in Beaufort on Monday for Requiem Mass at 11.00am with burial afterwards in Churchtown Cemetery, Beaufort.
