
The brains behind St Paul’s terrific season in the ladies’ national basketball league has been honoured.
James Fleming has been named coach of the year in Division One after guiding the Killarney club to an almost flawless 15-1 record in the regular season.
He landing them a south conference crown before a promotion play-off success against iSecure Swords Thunder at the National Basketball Arena.

Playing a fluent, attacking brand of basketball, St Paul’s were also runners-up in the Division One League Trophy tournament.
Fleming will now have the challenge of establishing his team as a mainstay of the Super League during the 2024/25 season.
In addition to his coaching duties, his company, Utility Trust, is also the main sponsor of the ladies’ side.
The son of Tadghie and Maureen Fleming, Lewis Road, James was previously assistant coach of the Ireland’s under 20 ladies’ squad and he guided Cork side Fr Mathews to a number of national titles.
An accomplished basketballer in his day, he is also a former Dr Crokes senior football championship winning captain and he has coached a number of GAA teams in Kerry and beyond.
