
IT was a long time coming for Killarney Legion who ended a 43-year wait for an O’Donoghue Cup final victory at the close of the season and they were rewarded further at the weekend when six players from the club were chosen on the East Kerry All-Stars team.

Podge O’Connor, Cian Gammell, Jonathan Lyne, Rob Leen, Kieran Slattery and James O’Donoghue were all honoured and, to make it an even better night at the awards ceremony in the Brehon Hotel, Kerry star James O’Donoghue was named player of the year and stylish defender Cian Gammell is the young player of the year.
Gneeveguilla’s Padraig Doley was named intermediate player of the year while the personality of the year award was presented to Jerry O’Sullivan who guided East Kerry to an impressive Kerry senior football championship success.
The hall of fame recipient was long-serving Kilcummin clubman Billy Doolan.

In addition to the six Killarney legion representatives, the All-Stars team included four from beaten finalists Dr Crokes, two from Spa and one each from Gneeveguilla, Kilcummin and Glenflesk.
