A popular Killarney man, who moved to the US to start a new life in the 1960’s, and provided so much support and advice to immigrants that followed in his path, will be laid to rest in his hometown this Saturday.

Jackie Leahy, originally from Marian Terrace, lived in New York for over five decades and he played a very active role in the Irish community there, becoming a reliable go-to source for information and advice for so many.

Jackie – whose family had long links with the Black Valley – passed away in New York on October 3, following a short illness, shortly after enjoying one of his regular visits home to catch up with family and friends.

He adored his annual visits to Killarney where he caught up with neighbours, enjoyed the attractions of the town and reminisced with friends about old times.

A cremation ceremony has been held in the US and Jackie’s ashes will be interred in Aghadoe Cemetery this Saturday at 2.00pm and all his Killarney friends are welcome to attend.

To coincide with the burial of ashes, a memorial Mass for Jackie will be celebrated in the Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel in New York.

Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Annie, and his brothers Timmy and Jerry, Jackie is survived by his brother Michael, sisters Nuala, Mary and Anne, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and many friends.
