MOUNTAIN bike enthusiasts from the youth section of Killarney Cycling Club gathered at the Big Little Bike Shop in Woodlawn, Killarney to give a rousing send off to talented club member Jack Murphy as he set off to represent Ireland in the European Championships in Italy.
It had been 10 years since a Killarney CC member achieved such an honour and the previous Euro competitor, Jason Murphy, was also present to wish Jack well.
Jack, 17, was presented with a top-of-the-range pair of sunglasses for the event by shop owner Denis O’Shea
The big race was held on Saturday young competitor, from Fossa, Killarney, made great progress through the field early on, over a very steep climb, but, following an unfortunate crash, Jack had too much ground to make up and, although he demonstrated true grit when moving up through the field, he just missed the cut.
