It’s up to Irish Water when – or if – problem pipe will be replaced

A MAJOR water pipe in constantly bursting on a busy Killarney road and it is causing a real inconvenience to residents in the area, shoppers and people trying to pass through on foot and on bicycles.

The matter has been raised by Mayor of Killarney, Cllr Brendan Cronin, who pointed out the problems that exist on the roadway between the roundabout at the entrance to Ballyspillane and the roundabout on Upper Park Road which is dedicated to local council outdoor staff and volunteers who have ensured the area has been well maintained.

He asked when Irish Water intends to provide the funding required to rectify the problem and he stressed that the pipe in constantly bursting.

It often leads to flooding close to the entrance to the nearby SuperValu store and the footpaths are regularly under water.

Council officials said the replacement of a 200m of 250mm pipe was included in a recent submission for funding sent to Irish Water by Kerry County Council.

The matter is currently under consideration and the council hopes the work can proceed in 2021 if it is sanctioned by Irish Water.

The N22 Park Road Roundabout is the main artery to the town from the Cork side.
