Veteran local politician Johnnie Wall is back in the hotseat in Tralee.

He was elected Mayor of the Municipal District at the annual general meeting this Monday morning and it is a position he has held on six occasions in the past.

A renowned musician, he was introduced to the Fianna Fail party by former TD the late Denis Foley and he was first elected to Tralee Urban District Council in 1985, serving as chairman and mayor on a number of occasions since then.

He was again co-opted to the council when Education Minister, Norma Foley, was elected to Dáil Éireann in 2020.

Cllr Wall was proposed by outgoing mayor and FF party colleague, Cllr Mikey Sheehy and seconded by Fine Gael’s Jim Finucane.

Labour’s Terry O’Brien was elected deputy mayor.
