COUNTRY music star Mike Denver will take centre stage at Puck Fair this Thursday night but today it was all about cattle with all creatures great and small on display and up for sale at the traditional fair on Langford Street.
Excitement reached fever pitch last night as 12-year-old festival queen, Kerry Lynch, crowned King Puck after a gala coronation parade through the packed to capacity streets of the town.
Thousands of people turned out as Kerry, a pupil at Glounaguillagh National School, Caragh Lake, led the parade on Gathering Day and she had the honour of placing the crown on the bearded monarch’s head as he was hoisted high over the town on the festival throne.

The festivities will continue, at full tilt, today and tomorrow with Mike Denver taking the limelight on the main Puck Stage at The Square tonight with the Two Mikes and Family Ties performing on the Library Point platform.
Celebrity GP Dr Pixie McKenna, the star of Embarrassing Bodies, was the big attraction at Puck yesterday as she offered festival revellers an opportunity to take part in her new TV series, You Should Really See a Doctor, when she set up shop in a mobile health check unit at the horse fair in Evans’ Field.
Dr Pixie and Dr Phil Kieran hosted a free pop-up clinic to offer on-the-spot consultations and health checks for the RTÉ One series.
They examined lumps, bumps, pains, aches and what they described as “toilet troubles” with the visitors to Puck and, it is understood, one or two locals also availed of the service.
