It hasn’t gone away you know… be careful out there

As the big mop-up continues following yesterday’s freak thunderstorm, Met Éireann has warned of the risk of more lightning, heavy downpours, gusty winds and the chance of hail until 10 o’clock this Sunday night.

It could lead to localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions and members of the public have been advised to proceed with caution and to keep an eye out for rapidly changing conditions.

Tralee was the worst hit area yesterday afternoon and several businesses were forced to close their doors after flood waters poured into their premises.

Dunnes Stores on North Circular Road has now fully reopened after the torrential rain caused damage to the roof of the building yesterday afternoon.

The Aqua Dome, which was also hit, has also reopened for business and is operating as normal this Sunday.

Meanwhile, the two lifeguards who were hospitalized after a lightning strike on Banna Beach yesterday were observed overnight at University Hospital Kerry but they were not seriously injured.

Kerry County Council has advised the public that, as a result, there will be no lifeguards on duty in Banna this Sunday so caution is urged.

Management at University Hospital Kerry had to close a number of areas yesterday as a result of damage caused by flooding.
