Director Jim Sheridan had a box office smash hit with In the Name of the Father but Killarney is now following his lead on the double.
Two popular Killarney Pastoral Area priests will be swapping the altar for the silver screen – on a temporary basis and in the name of community sprit – when they star in a major A Night at the OsKaRs fundraiser.

Glenflesk PP Fr Jim Lenihan and Fr Joe Begley of the Killarney Parish will be taking a brief break from their priestly duties to walk the red carpet and showcase their acting skills in the Gleneagle INEC Arena on Thursday next, December 7.
They will join their parishioners and friends from Kilcummin and Glenflesk for the big event and they have been stealing the show at rehearsals in the lead up to showtime.
Despite being very busy with parish responsibilities, Fr Jim and Fr Joe take on their respective roles as Dennis in Kerry Girls and as Kevin in The Wind that Shakes the Barley with enthusiasm and a great sense of fun.

“We were delighted when they decided to get involved and the bit of healthy rivalry has really added to the event for everyone,” said Niamh Dwyer of Kilcummin GAA.
“They both have strong connections with the two parishes so there has been plenty of banter throughout the filming,” she added.
This is the second time the Glenflesk and Kilcummin clubs have joined forces to organise the big fundraising event which was a sell out when previously held in 2018.

There are 103 cast members and over 100 extras involved in the eight films, so there will be stiff competition for the coveted OsKaR Awards on the night and a tough task lies
ahead for the judges.
“The interest and enthusiasm of locals wanting to take part has been incredible from the start,” said Derry Healy of Glenflesk GAA.
In addition to Kerry Girls and The Wind that Shakes the Barley, there will be six more outstanding films shown on the night and they are Braveheart, Bridesmaids, Calendar Girls, Veronica Guerin, Blues Sisters and Downfall.
The award for Best Film will be voted on by the audience and there will be prizes for the best dressed male and female in the audience.
Doors will open at 6.30pm and the performance will start at 7.30pm with post-show celebrations into the night with a DJ in the Backstage Bar at the Gleneagle.
A capacity crowd of 2,000 people is expected again this year an tickets, which are priced at are €32.50, can be purchased online and links are also available on the The OsKaRs by Glenflesk and Kilcummin GAA Facebook and Instagram pages as well as on www.kilcummingaa.com.
