In the money: €50,000 to be shared by two sports clubs

Killarney Rugby Club will get €25,000

Killarney Rugby Club received a great financial boost this Tuesday when it was named as one of two clubs in Kerry to be approved for €25,000 in funding as part of the Healthy Ireland Walking Tracks initiative.

Minister for Education and Kerry TD, Norma Foley, has welcomed confirmation of the allocation for the club with another €25,000 to go to Killorglin soccer club.

It was allocated through the Irish Rugby Football Union and Football Association of Ireland Healthy Ireland Walking Tracks initiative which is designed to make pitch-side walking track facilities more accessible to everyone in the community.

Minister Foley said: “I am delighted that Killorglin AFC and Killarney rugby football club have received this funding. It will give more people the opportunity to enjoy a safe and accessible walking track in their community”.

This is the second phase of the Healthy Ireland Walking Tracks initiative, which previously delivered €1.6 million in funding to GAA clubs.

It promotes increased physical activity among all ages by supporting clubs to upgrade walking tracks to improve accessibility for people with mobility issues such as older persons and wheelchair users.
