KILLARNEY Sports and Leisure Centre is to be used as a mass Covid-19 vaccination centre, KillarneyToday.com can confirm.
It will be one of several facilities nationwide where the vaccines will be administered to those next in line and, it is understood, part of the Munster Technological University campus in Dromtacker, Tralee will also be used.
Health Service Executive officials have already assessed the Kerry County Council run Killarney sports facility, off the bypass road, and the initiative will be spearheaded by Cork Kerry Community Healthcare and the South-South West Hospital Group.

The Health Service Executive said the priority will be to ensure that the vaccination roll-out continues to be efficient and safe and that as many people as possible are vaccinated as early as possible.
The aim is to ensure ease of access and ensuring that each vaccination centre meets many clinical and logistical requirements.
The hub locations require specific refrigeration systems, vaccination areas, an observation area and registration and administration areas.
The Covid-19 vaccines will be administered to older people at larger multi-GP clinics and at the hubs in local areas and the programme is due to be rolled out to those aged over 70 later this month.
It is believed that a health service recruitment service has been engaged to recruit qualified and suitable health professionals to administer the vaccines at the centres.
