Concern has been voiced over yet another rise in rents in Kerry with Deputy Pa Daly slating the Government for what he termed its continued commitment to a failing strategy.
Commenting on the Daft Rental Report for the last quarter of 2024, he said the housing plan is failing with prices and rents prices rising to a record high in Kerry.
“Instead of learning from these mistakes that often have devastating impacts on people’s lives, Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Lowry-led independents seem determined to make things even harder for people,” he said.
The year-on-year increase between 2023 and 2024 spanned from 8.2% to 11.4% depending on the size of the property.

“These are some of the steepest increases in the country having soared to double digit figures. Average rent now stands at a staggering €1,443. That is 64% above pre-Covid levels, ”the Sinn Fein TD pointed out.
He said the increases show no sign of slowing down.
“There were just over 360 homes available to rent in Munster on February 1st which was down 10% on the same date a year previously and almost two thirds from the 2015-2019 average.
“In fact, the rental supply has all but completely collapsed outside of Dublin. Effectively no new rental housing has been added outside Dublin in the last few years,” Deputy Day remarked.
“With rents having risen steadily over the last 10 years, the Government have to face up to the fact that we are over decade into this crisis and unless there is change, things will continue to deteriorate.
