Charity campaigner and human rights activist Adi Roche will be one of the guest speakers at this year’s Diocese of Kerry online mission which will run from January 21-24.
She founded and is CEO of the Chernobyl Children’s Project and continues to work with the United Nations to highlight the consequences of the nuclear disaster. She will address the online mission at 8.00pm on Sunday, January 21.
Other guest speakers will be Dr Michael Conway who is Professor of Faith and Culture in St Patrick’s College in Maynooth, Dr Keith Gaynor who is an Associate Professor in Clinical Psychology in the School of Psychology in Blackrock, Co Dublin and Jane Mellett who is the Church Outreach Manager at Trócaire with a special interest in Laudato Si’ and how it continues to inspire faith communities to respond to the environmental crisis.

This year’s four-day mission, called Hope Alive, will offer an opportunity for people to gather in reflection and in prayer, online and in the home. Like the traditional parish mission, everybody is welcome to participate, inclusive of all age groups and registration is via the diocesan website.
The diocese said the mission aims to lift spirits and hearts at a time when, in addition to the normal ups and downs of daily living, there is horrific war, a housing shortage and a stretched healthcare system.
Bishop of Kerry, Ray Browne, said it is good for parishes to unite online to nourish, share and live their faith.
“We believe in and put our hope in Jesus Christ, who assures us of his love and protection, and who asks us to love and care for one another, reminding us that people everywhere are our sisters and brothers,” he said.
“We live in fear-filled time: parents concerning young children; adults regarding housing and poverty; all of us regarding both climate change and the awful wars in Sudan, Ukraine and Israel-Palestine. Hope in the presence of Jesus Christ is our response to all fear and worry,” Bishop Browne added.
On each of the mission days, the people will be invited to participate in prayer, Mass and reflections in addition to listening to the guest speakers.
Mission booklets are available in parish churches, with daily Mass to be broadcast online from four churches representing different pastoral areas of the diocese.
The streamed Masses will be:
- Our Lady and St Brendan’s Church, Tralee on Sunday, January 21 (10,00am).
- St Crohan’s Church, Caherdaniel, on Monday, January 22 (10.30am)
- Causeway/Ballyduff on Tuesday, January 23 (10.30am)
- St Mary’s Church, Dingle on Wednesday, January 24 (10.30am)
