The waiting list backlog for patients requiring home care is at its worst in Kerry and Cork with over a thousand people being denied access to this essential service, Kerry TD Pa Daly has complained.
“It is totally unacceptable that so many people are left languishing on a waiting list. This is an essential service yet they are waiting for it for far too long,” he stated.
Deputy Daly said it is not just those on the list who are impacted as their friends and families are also left devastated because they often must carry the burden of care that should be the responsibility of the state.
“I have seen just how devastating this can be up close. Too many of my constituents get in touch to express their deep frustration and desperation at this situation,” the Sinn Fein TD stated.
He said the huge backlog in Cork and Kerry is reflective of the rural-Dublin divide with those outside the capital forced to wait five times as long.
“This postcode lottery clearly demonstrates that Finna Fáil and Fine Gael’s policies are failing the people of rural Ireland and of Kerry in particular,” he said.
Deputy Daly called on the four government supporting Kerry TDs, including two ministers to address the situation and to reduce the numbers of people on waiting lists.
