High five secures top spot

Milltown-Castlemaine 5-11 Listowel Emmets 0-10. It was a long but fruitful journey to Pairc Mhic Shithigh, Listowel and Milltown-Castlemaine travelled in the knowledge that a victory would push them top of Division 2 after a victory against Currow in Round 1 and a Draw away to Ballymac in Round 2.

Listowel Emmets were coming into the fixture on the back of a morale boosting championship win against Annascaul which helped them preserve their Junior Championship status.

It was to prove a game of two halves with Listowel Emmets leading at half-time but the visitors strolled to victory and, most importantly, the two points in the second half after five goals seen the tie swing decisively in their favour.

Death: The Milltown-Castlemaine GAA club extends sympathy to the O’Connor family, Chapel Road, on the death of Tommy. He had been a long serving executive member down through the years and was vice president. Tommy also served as postman for many years in the village and beyond. May he rest in peace.

Skills: Congratulations to all the footballers from our club who participated in the skills competition in Milltown Castlemaine GAA Grounds. In particular, we say well done to the winning team from St Joseph’s School, Castlemaine who were winners on the day. Two on that team were John and Dara Hogan are from our own club. Well done boys. Dara Hogan came second in the individual part of the competition.

Communion: We wish all the children from our club the very best on their First Communion Day on May 12. We hope you will have a happy day with your families and friends.

Comhaltas: County archaeologist Michael Connolly will make a presentation on Killaclohane Dolmen on this Thursday night at 8.30pm in the old Community Hall. This local monument has been found to be possibly the oldest man-made structure in Ireland. Come along to this free event and learn more about exciting findings from recent excavations.

Quiz: The final Comhaltas quiz will take place o Friday night in Faha Court at 8.30pm. Join in the fun with plenty novelty rounds and spot prizes.

Walk: The Walk into the past family walk will commence at 10.30am at Nagle Rice Community Centre to Killaclohane on Monday, May 7. All are welcome to visit this remarkable site.

Under 12: After a fantastic and entertaining evening on home soil last week our under 12 sides headed for Firies on for the next round of their county league fixtures.

On this occasion the scores were once again close but our visiting Milltown/Castlemaine sides were to come up just short on this occasion.  Our under 12 Green team were just edged out by Firies. The final score Milltown/Castlemaine 3-8 Firies 3-12.

Our under 12 White team, who had a very convincing win last week, also came up just short against the second Firies team. The final score in this match was Milltown/Castlemaine 2-8 Firies 4-6. Next up this Sunday for both green and white teams is a trip to Moyvane.

Students: We wish all the college students in our club the very best in their exams. This can be a very stressful time for them and so they need much support and understanding.
