THE ground-breaking initiative to locate life-saving defibrillators in high visibility old-style telephone kiosks is being extended further in Killarney.

The first AED kiosk in the country was officially unveiled on Main Street by Heart of Killarney volunteers in the Autumn of 2016 and a second was provided last June outside the Golden Nugget bar and restaurant in Fossa.

Now a third defibrillator kiosk has been installed at the entrance to Lissivigeen National School to service the school and the surrounding area on a busy approach road to town.

The aim of the project is to ensure Killarney is the project leader for Ireland when it comes to defibrillator availability with associated community first responders and public training initiatives.

The cost to purchase and install an AED kiosk exceeds €3,000.

In addition to the three kiosks, defibrillators are also available at Daly’s SuperValu, the Killarney Court Hotel, Dan Lineihan’s Bar, Killarney Cinema, Ilona Louise’s Hair Salon in Ballycasheen, Killarney Credit Union, O’Shea’s Funeral Home, Countess Shopping Centre, Hegarty’s Supermarket on Muckross Road and the Holiday Inn.
