Hat’s the way to do it Mercy

Picture 9MORE than one wore a bonnet with a ribbon on it and that was only the start of it as the creative pupils of Killarney’s Holy Cross Mercy primary school turned on the style for a fun-filled Easter bonnet display.

There was great eggs-citement for the season that’s in it with the diligent students, their teachers and the parents all showing wonderful enthusiasm for the big event held in the school this Thursday.

Some magnificent creations were designed and manufactured in the classrooms as well as on kitchen tables at home and many of the elaborate headpieces on show would have put milliner-to-the-stars Philip Treacy to shame.

Picture 2Hats and bonnets adorned with Easter eggs, bunny rabbits, sunflowers, sweets, ribbons and everything the kids could get their hands on were produced and the determined pupils happily spent every spare moment they had preparing for the big event.

The classrooms and corridors at the New Road school were ablaze with colour for the novel occasion and the highlight was when the pupils – and one or two creative teachers – took to the catwalk to display their wares in a stylish fashion show.

Yellow and pink appeared to be the seasonal colours of choice and it was quite clear during the adventure-filled Easter bonnet parade that a remarkable effort had been made by everybody involved.

Picture 8The fashion show is just one of many fun-filled extra curricular activities held at the school and this year’s pageant was such a hit that it is certain to become an annual feature.
